HGST Disruptive Storage Technology


Reinventing the rulebook on system performance, capacity and cost efficiency is disruptive. Oracle systems employing HGST Flash Max II and III cards enjoy an entirely new level of performance.  A simple demonstration of this capacity change can be demonstrated in our HP DL-380 12c Mulit Tenant RAC database that delivers over 1,000,000 transactions per second with CPU utilization below 20%, using a 3 node cluster with single 1Tb Flash Max II cards in each node and only 12 cores per node.  This order entry systems simulated by Swing Bench generates over 600,000 IOPs of sustained activity and costs less than $75,000.00 in hardware.


FlashMax PCI Flash cards and HGST software allow 0.5 through 4.82 Tb flash cards to be presented as shared disk across RAC environments.  Using ASM, these cards can be assembled within ASM Disk Groups for highly fault tolerant ultra fast storage that can be combined with SAN or ZFS storage to deliver the ultimate performance in an environment that exploits Oracle's software for unrivaled system performance.  By allowing ASM to determine the preferred read disk, the flash storage can be used to share IO demands with all write going to ZFS or SAN and the 80% of requests coming from Flash Max storage.  Oracle's advanced compression can be used to further reduce cost by shifting unused data for ZFS storage dynamically with Hybrid Columnar Compression optimizing storage capacity.
